Countdown gives their customers a choice of more than 20,000 different products in each of their stores. The supermarket stores offer fresh meat and fish, fruit and vegetables, bakery and delicatessen items, canned food, dairy products, wine, beer, household goods, dressings, nonalcoholic beverages, cereals, and snacks, among many other products.

Countdown's main competitors are other supermarket chain stores such as Supervalue, New World, Gilmours, with 140 stores across New Zealand and Pak'nSave with 57 supermarkets mainly concentrated in urban areas.
